SOMFAM is developing programs that will help Somali immigrant families better adapt to living in the United States. We encourage you to get involved by participating in the programs or helping us facilitate and develop new programs.


CURRENT PROGRAMS


Somali Girls in the Kitchen – Learning how to cook healthy, nutritious and quick meals, with one-on-one mentoring.

Women's Support Group – Monthly discussion group covers multiple topics that promote the health and well-being of families as well as helping women nurture themselves and learn about healthy living. 

Men’s Support Group – Helping fathers to become more involved with their children, especially their boys and teaching them about importance of being a father figure.

 

FUTURE PROGRAMS

GIRLS

Somali Girls Empowered – Mentoring to Foster Creative Action. In-school programs done in partnership with Girls in Action, a program of Dr. Verna Price Price.

BOYS

Somali Boys Mentoring – to empower, educate boys with the goal of creating strong role models for the Somali community and the larger society

FAMILY

Cross-Cultural Training – Teaching about Somali culture and language, including how to read and write Somali. 

Health, Wellness and Nutrition – Education about healthy nutrition and exercise to create healthy mothers and families

Weekly program on Community TV – Mostly health, wellness, nutrition topics as well as family activities, resources and programs

Resources for Families – Directing families to any services that they need to guide them in building and maintaining a healthy, sustainable, and fulfilling life.

MEN & WOMEN

Vocational Training – To teach life skills so that community members can become self sufficient.
